Possibility of Extension of Hours for The King's Coronation – England and Wales

19 Dec
2022

Licensed Premises in England & Wales may benefit from extended hours in celebration of the King's coronation in May 2023.

The Government has said that it will consult on making an Order (a Licensing Hours Order) to extend hours from 11pm to 1am on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of May 2023.

On the possibility of making the Order Home Secretary Suella Braverman said: "His Majesty the King's coronation will be a historic moment that will see our great nation and the entire Commonwealth joined together in celebration. Our country, and in particular our hospitality industry, has faced many challenges in recent years and the King's coronation is an opportunity to give a boost to our local businesses, and celebrate with our local communities. Over the bank holiday weekend we can raise a glass to our new monarch, and with our friends and families wish him a long and successful reign.”

We will keep an eye on the consultation and (hopefully) the making of the Order and will confirm the arrangements in due course.

We will also wait and see whether there will be a similar proposal for Scotland.

Law correct at the date of publication.
